Vinny Giambrocco Named Head Football Coach at Tilton School
TILTON, N.H. – Tilton School is excited to announce the recent appointment of Vinny Giambrocco as head varsity football coach for the 2017-2018 school year.
Giambrocco joined Tilton School in August 2015 as assistant head football coach and defensive coordinator. He also teaches English and is the current dean of school life. As head coach he will replace Ken Hollingsworth P’06, ’09, who retired in fall 2016 after coaching Tilton School football for 37 years, 35 of those years as head coach. Hollingsworth will continue on at Tilton in his other roles as head varsity baseball coach, student advisor, and special assistant for external relations.
Recognizing the enormous contribution of Coach Hollingsworth to the Tilton program, Giambrocco is respectfully excited about stepping into this new role.
“It is incredibly humbling to follow a legend,” he said. “Coach Hollingsworth was a pleasure to work alongside over the past two seasons and I will forever hold with me the personal lessons of selflessness and patience we shared.
“I could not be more excited to be part of the Tilton football legacy,” Giambrocco added. “Tilton has been a successful, well respected program for decades and I am honored to have been chosen to take the helm.”
Looking ahead, Giambrocco said he is eager to see what the Rams can do.
“Our team is full of high character young men and they are prepared to show that our recent success was not a flash in the pan, but that it can be a sustainable outcome in the future,“ he said. “I see the Tilton program continuing forward, using the momentum of the last two seasons.”
The Tilton Rams went from “worst to first” in the two seasons Giambrocco has been with the team, doubling the number of football players at the school and ending with a two-year record of 12-5. The team finished the 2016 season with an Evergreen League Championship and a bowl appearance.
Junior Eric Pilcher has played under Giambrocco both years as defensive tackle and offensive center.
“Coach Giambrocco is going to carry the tradition of Coach H very well,” said Pilcher ’18. “His goal is to not only win as many games as we can, but to also get us into the best colleges possible, playing the game we love.”
Giambrocco’s years as a player on either side of the ball have also helped make him a great coach. “His mind defensively is crazy,” Pilcher said of Giambrocco as a defensive coordinator. “And his years of playing line and tight end have helped him teach us his tricks.”
Coach Giambrocco is a 2009 graduate of Stonehill College in Easton, Mass., where he contributed on offense, defense and in special teams for the Stonehill Skyhawks. Before college, Giambrocco attended Worcester Academy and was a three-sport athlete, competing in football, hockey and track. While at Worcester Giambrocco was football captain his senior year, a dorm perfect and class president, and won the H.G. Raider Award for his contributions in athletics, arts and academics. He graduated from Worcester Academy in 2005.
Born and raised in Leominster, Mass., to Brenda and Vincent Giambrocco, Sr., young Vinny grew up playing hockey and baseball. It wasn’t until the age of 15 while attending Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Mass., that he took up football. During his time at Eaglebrook, Giambrocco began transitioning from a hockey player to football and went on to play two seasons of varsity football for the Eaglebrook Eagles before attending Worcester Academy.
After graduation from Stonehill in 2009, Giambrocco went back to Eaglebrook to teach and coach for four years. From there he spent a year at Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Conn., where he was the head coach of the junior varsity football team, assistant coach for the varsity team, and head coach of the track and field team.
Practice for the 2017 season at Tilton School begins August 31.
