This past Thursday the LCA Varsity Wrestling team earned their 5th consecutive Eastern Independent League
Tournament Championship. The Lions scored 174.5 points to finish 60 points ahead of the nearest EIL
competitor. All fourteen LCA wrestlers placed in the top four for their respective weight classes with seven 1stplace,

For LCA, it was the 6th time the team has placed 1st in the EIL Tournament. This season, LCA also won its 5th
consecutive EIL regular season championship, going 9-0 against the competition. All five of the regular season
championships have been “sweeps”, as LCA has not dropped a regular season league match since 2005!
Overall, it was the program’s 10th regular season championship, dating back to its first championship in 1998.
“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our boys, the coaches, the program, and our Academy,” said Lions
Athletic Director Steve King. “It is a testament to the athletic integrity of our competitors and the coaches. Our
Academy is thrilled to support such a fine demonstration of the competitive spirit of LCA Athletics. We want
to congratulate these boys and the program for such a standout performance!”
The team finishes the year with a record of 16-6, with five of the six losses coming to teams ranked in the top
seven of prep schools in New England. Currently, the team is ranked 14th in New England for dual meets. The
Lions also finished 4th in the New England Invitational Tournament earlier this month.
The wrestling program, and LCA, will only have a bit of time to celebrate before the NEPSAC Wrestling
Tournament next weekend, February 19-20. The Tournament is at LCA, and is expected to draw the top 250
wrestlers from throughout New England.
“We’re excited for the NEPSAC Tournament,” noted Steve King. “It’s a great opportunity for us to partner
with the NEPSAC to highlight the outstanding student-athletes from all of our schools, recognizing them for
their athletic passions and accomplishments. Our community is excited to demonstrate the hospitality that
makes LCA a special place to be.”
