Marcos Echevarria ’15 of St. Mark's Reaches 1000-Point Plateau

February 21, 2015

Congratulations to Marcos Echevarria ’15. With his first shot in Saturday’s boys’ varsity basketball game against St. George’s—a three-pointer barely half-a-minute into the contest—he passed the 1000-point mark on his St. Mark’s career.

Action stopped immediately, as Echevarria took congratulations from his teammates and coaches Brian Burbank ’07 and Sal Abdo ’07. Athletic Director John Levandowski then presented the Sixth Former from Peabody, MA with a special basketball commemorating the event.

Echevarria’s family wore special t-shirts for the occasion. On the front they read: “My whole life I went… 1000%... Now I’m in the 1000 point club,” while Marcos’ name was emblazoned on the sleeves. He is the tenth player in St. Mark’s basketball history to score 1000 career points.

That same day, just before the game, head coach Brian Burbank had saluted the Sixth Formers on this year’s team—Echevarria, Logan Harper, Aaron McLean, Neeraj Mahey, and Logan Lee—and each senior gave their mothers flowers and had photos taken with their parents.

The Lions went on to win the game, upping their record to 15-4, with two games remaining on the regular season schedule.
